Terms of service
Last updated
Read this first. Only you can open your vaults. If you lose both your pattern and your 12-word recovery phrase, your files are gone permanently. Nobody can recover them, including us. Keep your recovery phrase written down somewhere safe.
These terms are between you and Sentry Brain Single Member P.C. (“we”, “us”), and cover the Hidewell Vault app for iPhone, iPad and Android and the website hidewell.app. They take effect on 21 October 2026. By using the app, you agree to them. How we handle data is in our app privacy policy and website privacy policy.
Your pattern, recovery phrase and files
- Your files are encrypted on your phone. We don’t hold your files, pattern, recovery phrase or keys, so we can’t open, recover or reset anything for you.
- You’re responsible for remembering your pattern and keeping your recovery phrase safe. The phrase is the only way to restore your backup on a new phone.
- The duress pattern permanently destroys access to your other vaults on that phone. You can bring them back only from your backup, with your recovery phrase.
- Backups live in your own iCloud Drive or Google Drive. Keeping that account available is up to you.
Your licence
You may install and use the app on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use. Don’t copy, resell or redistribute it. We may update the app to fix problems, improve security or add features.
The app’s cryptography core is open source, available under the MIT License or the Apache License 2.0, at your option. All the security-relevant code (encryption, pattern unlock, hidden vaults, attempt limits and backup) lives in that core; the apps are a thin native layer on top. For that code, its licence applies instead of these terms.
Acceptable use
Use the app lawfully, and don’t store or hide content that is illegal for you to have. We can’t see what you store, but you’re responsible for it. Good-faith security research is welcome; please report findings to support@hidewell.app.
Free and Pro
Free includes one vault with up to 150 photos and 15 videos. Pro adds unlimited vaults and files, the duress pattern, the secure camera, and albums and tags. Pro costs $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $44.99 once for lifetime access. Your store may show local prices. Every plan uses the same encryption.
Purchases, renewals and refunds
- Apple or Google bill you, and handle refunds under their own policies. We never receive your payment details.
- Pro monthly and Pro yearly renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You keep Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. To restore Pro on a new phone, sign in with the same store account.
Warranty and liability
We work hard to make the app secure and reliable, and our threat model says what it does and doesn’t protect against. Beyond that, we provide the app as it is. We’re not liable for data you lose by losing your pattern and recovery phrase, using the duress pattern, or deleting your vaults or backup, or for indirect loss.
None of this limits rights that the law doesn’t let us limit. That includes your rights as a consumer under EU and Greek law, and our liability for intent, gross negligence, or death or personal injury.
App stores and the website
Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to App Store downloads, and Apple has no obligation to support the app. Google Play’s terms of service also apply to downloads from Google Play. You may use this website for personal, non-commercial purposes; other companies’ names and trademarks belong to their owners.
Ending these terms
You can stop at any time by deleting the app, which deletes the vaults on that phone. Your backup stays in your cloud until you delete it. We may end your licence if you seriously breach these terms.
Changes and governing law
We’ll publish changes here and tell you in the app’s release notes before material changes take effect.
Greek law governs these terms. If you’re an EU consumer, you keep the mandatory protections of your home country and can bring claims in its courts; otherwise, the courts of Larissa, Greece, decide disputes.
